Recently I spent some time in the Laos capital city, Vientiane. Being the capital, it is probably the most westernized city in all of Laos, and where you can find things you miss from home such as Marmite, and Eggs Benedict. There is also the COPE visitor centre which is a local non-profit organization that provides provincial rehabilitation centres to provide access to orthotic/prosthetic devices and rehabilitation services, including Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. The majority of the injuries relate to accidents involving UXO (unexploded mines) as a result of the wars in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The centre is very interesting and worth a visit. There are also the other usual things which come with bigger cities, such as traffic lights, construction and safety related signs – such as this one attached. Enjoy!
